By the grace of God, Dr. Christopher Sun is a Chinese American evangelist, born in Taiwan. He received a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Chung Yuan Christian University in 1977, the Master of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1980, the Master of Arts degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1984, and the Doctor of Philosophy from the California Graduate School of Theology in 1987.
Dr. Christopher Sun went to church when he was eight years old, and as a child, God began to call him when he read the Bible. By the grace of God, Dr. Sun loves to pray and talk to God, and this becomes the source of his strength from day to day. God began to train him to serve in different churches when he was young. In 1977, Dr. Christopher Sun was married to S. L. Shirley Sun, a fourth generation Presbiterian. Their wedding was officiated by Bishop Stanley Tung of the Lutheran Church. By the grace of God, they have one son and one daughter.
Pastor Sun served and preached in Baptist and Evangelical churches from 1980 through 1984, and since then he has been invited to preach in churches of various denominations, in universities, and seminaries by the grace of God. His first evangelistic meeting was held in 1983 in the chapel of the Van Nuys Baptist Church in California.
Beginning as a California licensed architect and member of the American Institute of Architects, Dr. Sun gave up his architectural career yearts ago to serve the Lord as a fulltime minister of the Gospel. In 1992, his wife also gave up her career as a Certified Public Accountant to join this ministry. Pastor Sun was ordained to the work of the Gospel ministry in the presence of a pastoral group led by then 91 year old Pastor Wesley Wang, Pastor Micah Leo, and three other pastors. The Ordination Service was held during the Sunday worship on March 3, 1991, in California.
Being moved by God, Dr. Sun founded the Kingdom of God Ministry in California in 1984, as a non-profit organization, doing business as the Christopher Sun Evangelistic Association. Starting in 1991, by the grace of God, Pastor Sun has held many citywide evangelistic crusades in coliseums, stadiums and open-air fields in various cities around the world, giving all the glory to God.
By the grace of God, the headquarters of the Christopher Sun Evangelistic Association in the United States is supported financially only by the freewill offerings of Christian brothers and sisters. Pastor Sun ministered without a salary from 1981 to 1991. Since 1992, he began to receive a salary commensurate to that of a local church pastor in the United States. Pastor Sun does not accept any honorarium when he speaks, and even donations designated for his personal use are given to the Crusade Fund of the Christopher Sun Evangelistic Association.
By the grace of God, the Christopher Sun Evangelistic Association is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, with an independent auditor examining the Association's finances annually. The local chairmen of each Christopher Sun Evangelistic Meeting around the world are responsible for the supervision and management of each crusade's finances. The Board of Chairmen assigns a finance committee to oversee all offerings and all expenditures. Each location operates independently, and makes public a financial statement after each crusade.
